MRI scanning for Colon and Rectal cancer.

MRI scanning for Colon and Rectal cancer.

MRI scanning is principally used to indicate the stage of rectal cancer.  MRI scanning gives a very detailed image of the components of the rectal wall and can indicate if the cancer has spread into or through the wall of the bowel.  This is particularly important in rectal cancer where the spread of the cancer if detected can be trated before operation, with radiotherapy.

MRI scanning can also be used to detect lymphnode metastases.
